Education is one of our best attractions! In all the cities that make up the Greater Valley Area, superior education is a top priority. The area is served by Chambers County Schools, Harris County Schools, Lanett City Schools and Troup County Schools, as well as several private schools. The two largest private institutes are Springwood School in Lanett and Chambers Academy in LaFayette. The Chambers County School System serves some 4,300 students in grades Pre-K through 12. The school system takes a proactive, high-tech approach to the design and implementation of its curricula in all of its 11 schools – six elementary, two middle schools, two high schools and a career and technical center for grades 10-12. All the system’s schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and all of the career technical programs are business- and industry-certified. The Lanett School District serves some 1,500 students at three schools – elementary, junior high and high school – located within the city limits of Lanett. This district strives to ensure sound education via a balance of academic programs and meaningful extracurricular activities such as Army Junior ROTC, music, art and athletics. As a private school with grades K4 through 12, Springwood School emphasizes technology at all levels and provides an environment where students acquire a lifelong love of learning and an understanding of personal responsibility. The school focuses on providing a range of experiences that help prepare children for success in future educational and life situations. Springwood, which is SACS-accredited and a member of the National, Southern and Alabama Associations of Independent Schools, ofers a college-preparatory curriculum, an honors program and advanced placement classes. Chambers Academy also serves pre-school through 12th grade as a private school. The school is SACS-accredited and the instructional staff meets Alabama Independent School Association certification requirements. The Academy goals are academic excellence and the social growth and development of its students. The school offers diverse athletic, music, art and extracurricular programs that strengthen academic programs and provide every student with the opportunity to be involved in a school activity outside the classroom. The Greater Valley Area also offers a range of choices in education beyond high school. Southern Union State Community College, in Valley, offers associate degrees in several areas of study. Columbus (Ga.) State University launched an instructional site in West Point in 2009 with the objective of offering courses that lead to a graduate or post-graduate degree. Just 16 miles to the east, LaGrange (Ga.) College also provides graduate and post-graduate degrees, as does Auburn (Ala.) University, about 30 minutes to the west. In the Greater Valley Area, it’s possible to begin with K-4, end with a Ph.D and never have to move away from home! |
