"Warbirds"
Fly-In A Huge Success
Dear City of
Valley
and GVACC folks,
The Valley
R/C Flyers thank all of you for your cooperation and assistance in helping us
put the GSWA airshow on. By all measures, it was a huge success.
This weekends
GSWA fly-in brought in 29 registered pilots along with quite a few of
their friends and family. They presented a total of 41 aircraft at
Saturday's noontime line up of the aircraft, called "The Showline".
There
were two pilots that came in RV's and stayed on the airport grounds, but the
rest stayed at local motels, including the Holiday Inn Express in Valley, and
ate their suppers and breakfasts at local eating establishments.
All of the
GSWA members were extremely pleased with the hospitality, reception,
assistance, and cooperation they received and were very impressed with
the absolutely superb flying site the city has.
All of them
said they would like to return, and after they spread the word among their
ranks, that we could expect a very significant increase in their numbers for
the next fly-in. In fact, some of the members even expressed the idea
that they would prefer to cancel some of their other events and have more or
replacement fly-ins here.
I
think that for all concerned, this weekend's fly-in was a big success.
If
you would like, the club's officers are willing to meet with you, at your
convenience, to critique the GSWA fly-in and discuss any future plans.
Mr.
Hendrix, I have the questionnaires that the GSWA registered pilots returned to
me and I will get them to you.

EverStart
Series Fishing Tournament

EverStart Series Tournament Director Chris Jones
told a large crowd gathered for Saturday's final weigh-in for a major fishing
tournament that there are three key ingredients to having a successful
tournament: (1) the anglers, (2) the sponsors and (3) the host community.
He said that all three factors had been fantastic in this past weekend's
EverStart Series Southeastern, hosted by Southern Harbor Resort & Marina on
West Point Lake.
He thanked George Marovich, Robbie Nichols and everyone at
Southern Harbor, volunteers with the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and
the cities of West Point, Lanett and Valley for helping make the tournament a
big success.
"An incredible, incredible team was put together this
week," he said. "I'd like to thank Suellen Snowden and the staff of
Valley Parks & Recreation for hosting a great registration event and Valley
Wal-Mart for hosting this final weigh-in," he said.
Among the tasks done by Chamber volunteers was to release the
fish back into West Point Lake after the weigh-ins.
A tournament such as the EverStart Series Southeastern brings
an economic impact of an estimated $3.3 million to a host community.
This past weekend's tournament was one of several major events
that are planned for this year on West Point Lake. The next big one will be
taking place June 20-25 when Southern Harbor will be hosting the BassMasters
Southern Open.

5th
Annual Ladies Networking Luncheon
Our 5th Annual Ladies Networking Luncheon was held Wednesday, April 27th at
noon. Our speaker was Dee Adams, aka Minnie Pauz. The total attendance was 175.
The meal was prepared by Ed Yeargan. Complete with valet parking,
attendees enjoyed the festivities and entertainment.
Fishing
Tournament
The
Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee and Ambassadors fed
over 500 fishermen who were in town for the BASS Fishing Tournament on April 11
& 12th. The tournament was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and hosted
by Southern Harbor on West Point Lake. The fishermen were in town for
approximately six days and brought a much needed boost to our economy. The
Chamber is sponsoring two other fishing tournaments this year. The first will be
held in May and the other in June.

High
School Volunteers
The Chamber office had a little extra help from three Springwood Seniors during
their Interim Week at school. The volunteers (Jessica, Katie, and Carrie) helped
prepare flyers about the RiverFest for the students of all our local schools.
They also helped with a request sent in from a student in the Mobile County
School System. The student's assignment was to send "Flat Stanley" (a
paperdoll from a fictional story read in the classroom) to different citiies to
find out about other communities. Our part of the assignment was to show Flat
Stanley around and then send back pictures of what he did while visiting our
area. Jessica, Katie and Carrie had fun showing "Flat Stanley" some of
our points of interest in the Greater Valley Area. (Looks like Stanley may have
gotten his first kiss too!)
